Improve Your Memory - Preserve Your Memory With Journaling and Fight Alzheimer's

It can be extremely difficult to find yourself in a situation where you are unable to recall events that should be important and which you are expected to remember. Anyone who has ever forgotten their spouse's birthday or an anniversary can certainly attest to the fact that there can definitely be consequences associated with the inability to recall certain events. While some people have a much more difficult time recalling events than others that does not mean that you simply have to sit back and accept it. You can take certain steps in order to improve your ability to recall important events.

Journaling is an excellent way to combat memory problems. If you are not familiar with journaling, it is a process that is much the same as keeping a diary. Basically, it involves keeping a written daily record of your observations and experiences. Journaling was once a very popular pastime. Many well known people throughout history have kept journals and their entries regarding their daily events have proven to be quite important in studying critical historical events.

While it may not seem as though your day to day events are historically significant, keeping a journal is an excellent way to help you improve your ability to recall events and data. What you record in your journal is entirely personal, but you may find it helpful to focus on writing down anything that you would like to be able to recall several years from now. This may include your impressions of places you visit, special experiences that only come around once in a life time, your thoughts about world events, etc.

Journaling provides an excellent way to preserve your memories against time. All of us, over time, will begin to experience problems with recalling information. If you experience more difficulty recalling important events than others, it may be even more important to you to focus on journaling now so that you can improve your ability to recall information that may be helpful later. If you think about it, you will likely notice that something special or important happens every single day. It could be that you meet someone new who will later have a major impact on your life or it could be that you notice a gorgeous sunset or that your child says something you want to always remember. The best way to preserve these important experiences is to write them down.

One a final note, journaling has been heavily recommended in some memory courses to help stop the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's. The theory behind this is quite simple - if you have more memories to recall from then any memory loss through the natural ageing process will not be as detrimental. Think of it as having a large superfluous bank account - if you lose some money here and there it won't be so bad since you will still have a positive balance. Compare that however to a bank balance that is heavily overdrawn - any withdrawals here will bear heavy consequences on the account holder's finances, dooming them to a life of poverty. In our case this is a loss of mental sanity, but luckily there are steps that you can take to mitigate this from happening.
